Rename files (Batch Rename)

One can change the name of a file by clicking on the name and typing the name.
The extension is retained.

But you can also rename multiple files from this program.
This is done by first selecting the files, use the Shift key if these files are together, use the Ctrl key if they are not contiguous.

Once the files are selected, click “Tools” in the menu bar and select “Batch Rename”.
This opens the dialog “Batch rename”:

In the upper section, “Destination Folder” we have three options.
You can rename them in the same folder.
You can rename them and move them to another folder.
You can rename them and copy them to another folder.
In the last two choices, you select a folder by clicking the “Browse” … button.

I choose the first so I go to the next section:
“New Filenames”
In the first section we determine the new name we want to give our photos.
In the second box type something that sets the first part of the name apart from the second part.
And in the third box, choose Sequence Number (Sequential number) – 1 (Ascending with a) – Two Digits (that consists of up to 2 digits, why 2? I have up to 99 pictures that I want to rename and my number can never exceed 2 digits).

In the third section “Options”, I check the Mac OS and Unix box to make sure when my photo (s) are sent to a Mac or Unix user, they can view them properly.

Click Rename when you’re done.
And the names of all our selected pictures will be changed:

Thus we can compose our own workspace.
Click and drag all the tabs to where you want them, you can omit tabs by clicking on “Window” in the menu bar and unchecking the tab.
If you have finished your work, you can save.
At the bottom left of the Bridge window, we find three buttons:

right click on one of these and choose “Save Workspace …”.
